I have a collection of archival pages—some neatly typed on vintage typewriters, others penned in flowing cursive—that now show the wear of time. Paper tears, faded ink, and smudges mean optical character recognition will miss too much; I need every word transcribed manually with the utmost care so the text is ready for publication.
Scope
• Source material: a mixed set of handwritten and typed documents, all moderately damaged yet still legible with attentive reading.
• Required output: clean, fully proofread transcripts in Word or Google Docs, mirroring original spelling, punctuation, line breaks, and any marginalia that influences meaning.
• Audience: an upcoming print and digital release, so consistency and zero-error accuracy are non-negotiable.
Workflow expectations
After receiving the PDFs or high-resolution TIFFs, transcribe page-by-page, clearly flagging any doubtful readings with double brackets [[like this]] so I can verify later. When handwriting is ambiguous, include a short note beneath the line rather than guessing. Once complete, run a second pass for internal QA before sending the final file.
Acceptance criteria
1. 100 % of visible text captured.
2. Original layout respected (paragraphs, headings, page numbers).
3. All uncertainties annotated; no silent omissions.
4. Document delivered in the agreed editable format.
