US-Based Technical Speaker

Job ID: 40240317

Budget: $2 – $8 USD

I have a steady stream of technical and instructional copy that needs a final pass from someone who thinks and writes in American English every day and is physically located in the United States. The goal is simple: take drafts that are already accurate in substance and make them sound effortless, reader-friendly, and culturally spot-on for a U.S. audience.

Here’s what the work looks like: you’ll receive each piece—most often as a Word document, though an occasional PDF or webpage export may appear—run through it with Track Changes or a similar commenting tool, tighten awkward phrasing, fix grammar and punctuation, smooth tone, and flag anything that might confuse or mislead a technically minded reader. Once complete, return both the marked-up file and a clean version so I can drop the copy straight into production.

Because the primary purpose is Technical/Instructional, clarity and precision matter just as much as flow. I’ll appreciate concise side notes explaining any major re-writes or terminology shifts so I can keep future drafts consistent.

Acceptance criteria for each delivery:
• No remaining grammar or spelling errors
• Terminology consistent with the original intent and industry norms
• Sentences read naturally to a U.S. professional audience
• Edits supplied in both tracked and clean versions within the agreed turnaround

If you’re a U.S.-based native speaker with sharp editorial instincts and can hit deadlines reliably, I’d love to see a brief sample of your past technical editing work and hear your typical turnaround time.
