A 1980 Penguin Modern Classics novel is waiting to speak in two new voices—German and Italian. The original is literature through and through, steeped in a poetic, descriptive cadence that leans slightly toward the archaic. The task is to carry that rhythm across without modernising its soul, so literature enthusiasts can feel the same pulse in their own language.
I will award two separate contracts, one per language. If you specialise in only German or only Italian, that is perfect; if you happen to master both, please be clear that I still expect two distinct, self-contained manuscripts.
Scope
• Translate the full text, preserving sentence flow, metaphors and any period-specific turns of phrase.
• Keep layout and chapter breaks exactly as in the source file so the finished work remains print-ready for a Penguin-style edition.
• Provide light translator’s notes only when absolutely necessary for cultural context.
Deliverable
A clean, proof-read manuscript in DOCX (and optional PDF) that mirrors the original pagination, ready for typesetting.
Acceptance
I will spot-check passages for tonal fidelity and fluidity; payment releases once the translated pages read naturally yet unmistakably echo the author’s poetic intent.
