Italian Literary Translator – Archival Poetry & Historical Text Adaptation

We are curating a collection of found poems and erasure texts adapted from historical documents. The source materials are English poetic reinterpretations of archival texts, and we need a sensitive Italian translator to reimagine these poems in Italian with literary grace and historical awareness.

This project is not a direct translation. It is a creative act of linguistic and historical reclamation. You will work with poems that carry the weight of the original documents—their tone, gaps, and subtext. Your task is to recreate their poetic resonance in Italian, balancing form, rhythm, and historical fidelity for a contemporary Italian readership.

What You'll Work On:

Short to medium-length found poems based on archival fragments.

Erasure texts where meaning is shaped by omission.

Brief contextual notes (to be translated) that reference the source documents.

A tone that is reflective, nuanced, and stylistically coherent.

We Are Looking For:

A native Italian writer with a strong background in literary translation, poetry, or creative writing.

Professional English reading proficiency – you must grasp poetic nuance and historical implication.

Demonstrable sensitivity to historical texts and experience working with layered, non-linear narratives.

Ability to make deliberate stylistic choices about line breaks, word choice, and voice in Italian.

A portfolio or samples showcasing poetic or high-literary translation work.
