Edit 39k-Word Memoir Manuscript

Job ID: 40478881

Budget: £250 – £750 GBP

The book is a short, literary narrative self-help / memoir about how people slowly leave their own lives without noticing, through busyness, success, distraction, avoidance and postponement, and how they begin to return.

The manuscript is already structurally developed and has been through several rounds of editing. I am not looking for a developmental rewrite. I need a skilled copy editor to make the manuscript clean, polished and submission-ready while protecting the voice.

The tone is reflective, honest, literary and emotionally direct. The writing should remain human, British, and not over-polished into generic self-help language.

What I need

Please copy edit the manuscript for:

Grammar, punctuation and sentence clarity
UK English consistency
Repetition, awkward phrasing and overlong sentences
Minor line-level improvements where the prose becomes too heavy or too polished
Consistency of style, tense and formatting
Any unclear or clunky transitions
Typos, spacing issues and formatting irregularities
Sensitivity around difficult emotional material
Any wording that may sound too absolute, overstated or legally/commercially risky

The book includes personal material, references to emotional distress, financial pressure, family life and composite client-style examples. I need someone careful, mature and discreet.

• Correct grammar, punctuation and usage without losing my personality.
• Smooth the flow so each chapter reads easily from start to finish.
• Double-check facts, dates and names for consistency and accuracy.
• Flag and suggest any structural improvements that could strengthen the overall arc.

I work in MS Word and would like both a clean file and a tracked-changes version, plus a brief editorial note summarising any larger recommendations you feel are important. If you have a keen eye for detail, experience with memoir or self-help titles, and can keep an upbeat, encouraging tone intact, I’d love to collaborate and get this manuscript ready for its next stage.
