Create As-built Vectorworks Model Of House & Site From LAZ Point Cloud
OUTSOURCING BRIEF
Create As-built Vectorworks Model of House & Site from LAZ Point Cloud
SCOPE
I'm looking for an intermediate to experienced draughtsperson to create a 3D as-built model of an existing two-storey house, studio, and site.
The model is to be in Vectorworks Architect 2020, and the source data is a LAZ point cloud file that encompasses the whole of the site, house, and studio inside and out.
Previous experience with modelling from point cloud data is essential.
The scope consists of 3 components, which I suggest is modelled as 3 separate files:
1.
House (200 sqm footprint, 8m to roof ridge)
2.
Studio (35 sqm footprint, single storey, 4 m to ridge)
3.
Site (1100 sqm area, sloping, 5m falls corner to corner)
CONTEXT
This scope forms a part of a wider project.
The purpose of the as-built model is to act as a basis for me to progress the Detailed Design phase of this project (which is not part of this scope).
Note that the wider project is a major refurbishment of the interior and exterior of this house, so bear in mind that about 30-40% of the house will be demolished.
This means that some components of the house do not need to be accurately modelled – only indicative e.g., windows, brickwork, decks and railings, roof tiles, roof eaves and guttering.
This sort of consideration can be hashed out in the first video meeting).
POINT CLOUD DATA
The source point cloud data was collected using a GeoSlam Horison portable scanning unit and is non-colour.
LEVEL OF DETAIL FOR EACH COMPONENT
GENERALLY: Application of materials to Vectorworks elements is not required.
Simple wall, floor, and roof elements are all that are needed.
HOUSE & STUDIO: The level of detail required on the house and studio is +/- 25mm.
I would like the brick veneer and roof to be modelled separately if possible as all the brick will be removed.
SITE: The level of detail required on the landscaping is +/- 50 mm.
I require the boundary fence, the ground plane, and hard landscaping to be modelled.
Ideally, I would like the site ground plane to be modelled as a simple mesh – and am keen to get feedback on the most efficient way of achieving this.
I may need some trees to be roughly modelled – but I will identify these as the work progresses.
PROCESS
Initially, I would like the studio and surrounding landscaping to be modelled as a sample area to confirm and clarify a shared understanding of the Level of Detail, and to verify preferred methods of communication and file exchange.
COMMUNICATION
I suggest that the model is created so that it can be shared on the Vectorworks Cloud Services platform – although only if this is efficient.
Additionally, I would expect occasional video meetings to enable clear communication and ensure that minor queries can be quickly answered in support of efficiency (any platform is ok – Zoom, Teams, Google Meet).
I am based in New Zealand but am flexible on meeting times at any time of the day.
A conversational level of English is required.
TIME-FRAME
I have not modelled in this way before and I am open to constructive suggestions to create an optimised workflow that could be utilised on this project (and future similar projects).
I’m unsure what a reasonable time frame for this project might be.
Initially, I would like to agree to review progress and learnings after 20 hours to see if this process is worth continuing.
MY BACKGROUND & EXPERIENCE
I am a sole practitioner architect based in Wellington, New Zealand.
I am focused on residential projects – both refurbishments and new-build.
In the near term, I am eager to find reliable out-sourced resourcing options that are proficient in Vectorworks, for this project and for future work.
