MacOS Game Controller Extension Creation

Job ID: 39747563

Budget: $30 – $250 USD

I need a MacOS Extension created using Xcode.
========================================

Hello! I hope your day has been well!

-----

Base Project Proposal:

This project is actually very small and probably something an experienced developer can do pretty easily.

I am looking for a freelancer to create a macOS DEXT extension that macOS along with other applications and video games will see as a virtual selectable HID video game controller. A macOS extension that is recognized as a video game controller.

This needs to be a Virtual HID video game controller extension, not something like a controller for iOS or iPad games.

The extension itself will be purely for macOS only.

Must be compatible with the latest version of macOS.

For example, there is an application for macOS called Ryujinx. When you open Ryujinx, you can click Options > Settings > Input. And then there is an "Input Device" drop-down. The extension should show in that drop down as a selectable game controller.

Ryujinx is just an example that I am listing here. You can use whatever you prefer for testing purposes

Project specifics:

-As I mentioned above, this is actually going to be a small project. And it will most likely be a very easy project as well. You are NOT going to be delivering to me a complete massive project. You are going to be delivering to me a starting point that I am then going to expand and customize for my own needs. That is all.

-The extension must compile as a DEXT, not a KEXT.

-Needs to be in full compliance with Apple's App Store requirements. This extension will become part of a larger project that will be going in to the App Store.

-It needs to be able to work as a target extension to a host application. You will NOT be creating the host application. That is not a part of your project. But if, for some reason, you do need to create a small host project just for creating this extension, that is perfectly fine. But it's not required.

-Since the extension is going to be used in combination with a host application, it should be something that I can easily move in to a pre-existing Xcode project.

-----

-About the controller inputs.

The controller inputs will NOT actually need to function to do anything when you submit it to me. You don't even need to create them at all.

That is something that I will be adding and customizing myself after you have submitted it to me

The scope of your project is ONLY to make it recognizable and selectable by applications and video games and to keep the code clean and understandable so that I can expand it and customize it for my own needs. Nothing less. Nothing more.

You are just laying the groundwork for me to add things like the inputs once I have the extension.

Testing confirmation:

-I need a easy way using Terminal to test and confirm that the virtual controller has started up and stopped.

From my understanding(feel free to correct me if I am wrong), virtual game controllers like this use Start() and Stop() functions when they start and stop or something very similar. Please include some form of a log system within those functions, indicating when those functions have fired off that I can check and confirm using Terminal for my own testing purposes. In other words, I need some simple Terminal way of testing and confirming that the controller has started and stopped.

-Please let me know how you decide to test and confirm that the extension works so that I can duplicate that on my end. If you choose to use Ryujinx as I mentioned above, that is perfectly fine. But you are free to use other means for testing. Simply let me know.

-----

A few easy additional requirements:
-If you are using any specific steps for building other than just building in Xcode, please provide them to me.

-Must work and compile with latest API's. However, if for some reason, older versions of the APIs are required and needed, I am completely fine with that, simply let me know.

-Naming convention: "Nukes Virtual Game Controller" and "nukesVGC."

Please name the extension itself "Nukes Virtual Game Controller." That is also what the user should see in their controller options. But for things such as code and classes, please utilize nukesVGC. this is simply to maintain consistency with the host application that the extension will become a part of. You are absolutely free to use variations of nukesVGC as you need to. This is all about coding consistency.

-----

-Also, it goes without saying that once submitted and accepted by me, I will be taking full ownership of the extension.

-When writing this proposal up, I was trying very hard to be crystal clear about the scope of the project. If anything was not clear, don't hesitate to message me with questions. Thank you.
