smART Magazine: OPEN CALL FOR WRITERS
Budget: $50 – $250 CAD
smART Magazine is currently looking for writers that can pitch, preview, review celebrate, critique, or analyse works of art for issue no. 9! Writers, illustrators, and photographers from anywhere around the world are encouraged to submit and pitch.
Pitch and Submission Details:
Submissions should fall within a range of 30–3500 words
Fees are determined on a case-by-case basis. Writers/contributors will be able to view suggested changes before accepting fees and publication. A style guide will be provided to all accepted writers upon publication.
Pitches should be 100 words or less. This should include relevant links, social media handles and any other pertinent information. Within this word count, we encourage writers to include their personal connection to the pitch and why they find the story compelling.
Please write pitches in the body of your email. Submissions should be attached as either a g.doc or a word document. Please include a description in the body of the email (>30 words).
Writers/Contributors are encouraged to consider pitches and submissions that are appropriate for the following print publication date: April 2022
Submissions and pitches can be made for the following categories:
1) VISUAL ARTS:
This includes pitches and submissions pertaining to visual artists, artworks and exhibitions. Preference is given to submissions that explore the intersection of the visual and immersive arts. Please submit in the form of illustration, photography or text.
2) MUSIC:
This includes pitches and submissions pertaining to albums, concerts, performances, productions, composers, and musicians at large. A preference is given to artists in experimental, jazz, and orchestral music. However, publication of other genres will also be considered. Please submit in the form of text.
3) THEATRE & PERFORMANCE:
This includes pitches and submissions pertaining to forthcoming theatrical and cinematic productions, directors, actors, writers, studios and production companies. Preference is given to submissions that explore the intersection of the performing and immersive arts. Please submit in the form of text.
4) ARTS & LETTERS:
Essay submissions on any topic related to the visual, performing, and immersive arts are welcome. Essays may be written from any perspective but should be accessible to the average reader. Preference is given to pitches and submissions that focus on issues of equity and inclusivity within arts communities on both local and global scales.
Please note that a strong preference is given to all pitches and submissions that recognize under-represented artists and communities.
