Freelance Editorial Writer – BARE Magazine (Remote)
About BARE
BARE is an independent fashion magazine exploring fashion beyond trends. We publish editorials, essays, opinion pieces, visual stories, and cultural research that examine fashion as a reflection of identity, society, history, creativity, and contemporary culture.
We are currently building our first issue and are looking for thoughtful writers from across India.
What you'll write
We're not looking for celebrity gossip, shopping guides, or trend listicles.
Instead, we want original long-form pieces such as:
- Fashion essays
- Editorials
- Opinion articles
- Cultural criticism
- Personal narratives connected to fashion
- Research-driven stories
- Visual culture analysis
- Fashion and society
- Fashion and identity
- Fashion, politics, gender, sustainability, technology, architecture, cinema, music, or philosophy
Who should apply?
Students, researchers, journalists, designers, artists, photographers, or anyone with a unique perspective on fashion and culture.
You don't need professional publishing experience. Strong thinking, originality, and good writing matter more.
Requirements
- Excellent English writing skills
- Ability to research and cite reliable sources
- Original, unpublished work
- Ability to meet deadlines
- Open to editorial feedback and revisions
Article Length
1,200–3,000 words depending on the story.
What you'll receive
- Payment per accepted article (to be discussed)
- Full byline and author profile
- Opportunity to become a regular contributor to BARE
To Apply
Please send:
- A short introduction about yourself
- One or two writing samples (published or unpublished)
- Three original story ideas you would love to write for BARE
We are looking for writers who ask meaningful questions—not those who simply report fashion news.
