Your ability to analyze how state and federal health care policies and funding affect health care organizations and consumers is crucial to its success in the marketplace. As a manager, especially one involved with overseeing operations, you will need to understand and apply this information regularly.
Assume you are the chief operating officer responsible for managing all operations of your selected health care organization. You recently received an email with the Options for Reducing the Deficit: 2017 to 2026 document, detailing the impact of the proposed options for reducing the federal deficit from the Congressional Budget Office. After reviewing the document, you have decided to write a letter to your professional association to reach its members. Your purpose in sharing your opinion is to influence others in the industry and provide useful information for those in similar situations facing challenges from regulatory changes that will impact their operations.
Prepare to write your letter by doing the following:
Select a health care organization with which you work or are familiar.
Download the report Options for Reducing the Deficit: 2017 to 2026 from the Congressional Budget Office.
Read Ch. 5, “Health Options,” of the report.
Select 1 of the health options that begin on page 219 (using the page numbers at the top of the document’s pages).
Write a 700- to 1,050-word letter to a professional organization for publishing (HIMSS, ACHE, AMA, etc.), which will be distributed to its membership, including your peers. In your letter:
Summarize your selected health option and why it is relevant to the chosen professional organization.
Describe how state and federal policies will impact your organization and consumers.
Describe how funding may impact your organization and consumers.
Identify any funding that is already included or needed for your chosen health option.
Recommend at least 2 possible solutions that your organization could implement to address your chosen health option.
Propose a call to action for the membership audience as to how they can help with your cause.
Cite 3 reputable references to support your assessment (e.g., trade or industry publications, government or agency websites, scholarly works, or other sources of similar quality).
Format your citations and references according to APA guidelines.
