Help Analyzing Literature Texts

I’m a university student who feels out of his depth when it comes to close-reading and interpreting the novels, poems, and plays on my syllabus. Even though literary analysis doesn’t come naturally to me, I’m disciplined about deadlines and eager to learn, so I’m looking for a patient mentor to walk me through the process of breaking a text apart and seeing how its pieces fit together.

The focus is squarely on Literature, and more precisely on Analyzing texts. We’ll work with whatever primary works my course assigns—anything from Shakespeare to modern short fiction—and I’ll supply the passages or full texts in advance. Your job is to help me:

• Identify themes, motifs, and symbols
• Spot significant literary devices (tone, imagery, diction, structure)
• Formulate clear, defensible thesis statements and topic sentences
• Back arguments with well-chosen quotations and contextual evidence

Typical workflow
1. I send the reading list or specific excerpt.
2. You return an annotated copy (Word, Google Docs, or PDF) plus a concise commentary explaining your reasoning.
3. We schedule a quick call or chat session so I can ask follow-up questions and confirm I’ve grasped the analysis.

Acceptance criteria
• Annotations are specific (line-by-line or paragraph-level) and tie directly to literary devices.
• Commentary includes at least one example for every major point you raise.
• Explanations are clear enough that I can rephrase them in my own words for class discussion or essays.
