design help for my food blog

I can't follow the theme instructions for customizing because I don't understand them. My blog is https://www.ibskitchn.com. It is a WordPress platform and I use classic editor because I don't feel comfortable using their new drag and drop editor. I also don't understand how to use the theme's widgets, how to place headings and how to name headings on my front page or elsewhere and how to size photos correctly for the theme's photo size requirements. Basically, I need help with the overall design capabilities of my theme.
