Wordpress Security and Performance Expert Needed

We have a wordpress site using Learndash LMS
ther are 15000 users - very few concurrent users though.
Learndash seems to be very heavy on the MySql queries when accessing user info - it loads the whole user DB. But it's only been an issue lately.
It gets to the point where the CPU stays at 100% and the site stops.
The site was hacked a few weeks ago - but cleaned up by Sucuri.
I have a VPS on Cloudways and full SSH / Root access etc.
According to the pluigin makers - the server we have should be fine. I have increased all memory limits etc.
With the plugin off it is faster, but I still can't update or delete users without timing out.
I need someone to take a look at what's going on and see if there are any issues or optimisations we can make on the server end.
I also need it checked for hacks - that could be the issue - there may be more going on.
