Wordpress- Fail to send email from Contact form

Wordpress- Email not sending
Error:
"The last email your site attempted to send was unsuccessful.
Email Source: N/A
Mailer: Default (none)
PHPMailer was able to connect to SMTP server but failed while trying to send an email."
This has been using default php mailer. Couple of months ago this issue came, which was fixed by a freelancer, but seems like it was a temporary fix. I'm not sure if another mailer was used.
I need someone to fix this permanently, preferably without using any other account. I will need to know what fix is applied as well.
