WordPress Migration: CyberPanel to xCloud
Budget: $30 – $250 USD
Hi, I need help with migrating two wordpress websites hosted on Contabo VPS (using cyberpanel) to XCloud how.
Migration Plan: CyberPanel to xCloud (on Existing Contabo VPS)
Goal: Secure, optimize, and migrate two WordPress sites from CyberPanel to xCloud while ensuring speed, security, stability, and minimal maintenance.
1. Clean & Reuse the Existing VPS
✔ Remove CyberPanel completely and ensure no leftover configurations.
✔ Install xCloud and configure it properly.
✔ Ensure the OS is updated and clean of any security risks.
2. Migrate the WordPress Websites
✔ Set up a fresh WordPress environment on xCloud.
✔ Move both sites without downtime.
✔ Correct file and folder permissions to prevent security vulnerabilities.
✔ Set up and configure SSL certificates (Let's Encrypt or custom SSL if needed).
✔ Update DNS records and test for proper propagation.
3. Security Hardening (Server & WordPress)
✔ VPS-Level Security:
Secure SSH access (change default ports, disable root login, key-based authentication).
Configure firewall rules (UFW, CSF, or equivalent).
Set up fail2ban for brute-force protection.
Ensure DDoS protection is enabled (Cloudflare or any available server-side protection).
✔ WordPress Security:
Remove malware, suspicious files, and vulnerabilities.
Disable XML-RPC, REST API access (if not needed).
Enable 2FA for WordPress login.
Secure wp-config.php and disable directory listing.
Limit login attempts and enable reCAPTCHA where necessary.
4. Clean & Optimize the Databases
✔ Remove unnecessary bloat (old revisions, orphaned tables, expired transients).
✔ Optimize database tables for better performance.
✔ Implement automatic database backups (daily/weekly).
✔ Set up offsite backup storage (Google Drive, S3, etc., if needed).
5. Email Setup & Configuration
✔ Mail Server Options:
Use xCloud’s built-in mail server OR
Connect to an external SMTP provider like Zoho Mail, Google Workspace, Mailgun, etc. for better email deliverability.
✔ DNS & Email Deliverability Fixes:
Configure SPF, DKIM, and DMARC to prevent emails from landing in spam.
Ensure proper rDNS/PTR records for the VPS (if using the server’s mail service).
Set up webmail access and email forwarding if required.
✔ Testing:
Verify emails are being sent/received correctly.
Check if contact forms, WooCommerce emails, and notifications work properly.
6. Performance Optimization
✔ WordPress-Level Optimization:
Enable caching (Object Cache, Page Cache, etc.).
Optimize images, scripts, and remove unnecessary background processes.
Disable unused WordPress features to reduce resource usage.
✔ Server-Level Optimization:
Tune PHP, MySQL, and other key settings for better performance.
Enable HTTP/2 or HTTP/3 support if available.
Set up a CDN (Cloudflare or any preferred service).
7. Final Testing & Handover
✔ Test both websites for functionality, security, and performance.
✔ Verify email sending & receiving across different platforms.
✔ Run security scans to confirm no vulnerabilities remain.
✔ Provide documentation & recommendations for ongoing maintenance.
