Vmware ESXI expert needed to recover volume on vm, backup vm's, move data to new drives
Budget: $15 – $25 USD
Description: Had a non expert working on the same task and they tried to expand the disk volume of a powered down vm, obviously that does not end well. Need to figure out how to recover the missing volume if at all possible. Also, there should be an old backup of the vm if we can't fix it but need to try the recovery first.
Task:
1. Recover volume on vm.
2/3. Move VM backups/copies from 4 existing vm's to new 4 tb HDD drive (currently unmounted). These 4 vm's host 4 nodes of a hadoop CDH cluster environment so the VM's can have their disk partitions safely expanded. Currently they share hdd's so they are limited in size.
4. In those existing 4 vm's, maintain existing partitions, expand storage to utilize full capacity of 1x4tb drive per vm for 4x4tb HDD's, 1 mounted to each VM. There should currently be 4 partitions per vm but these virtual partitions are sharing just a 2-3 HDD's. There should be 4 partitions per VM/HDD, x4 HDD's which will be total of 16 partitions.
5. Move the 4 vm copies back to the 4 original VM's with newly expanded partitions using most of 4tb disk space.
6. Add 3 new VM's:
- Use identical disk volume partitions mirroring the other VM's and partitions, with 3 more 4tb HDD's.
- Complete networking and all other configurations mirroring the existing 4 VM's.
7. Configure the 3 new VM's with networking
8. Final configuration will be 7 VM's with 7 HDD's
This should take a VMWare expert 2 hours of work, not counting drive copy time during which you can log off. Much of this work has already been done by an engineer who took another job. I just need someone to finish the job according to the above but you can use the existing work as much as you like. We will review before you get started.
