Restore wordpress backups

I'm looking to restore a wordpress site using bitnami and aws hosting.
I'm using a updraft plus to restore the site however I'm getting errors in the restore process due to the UTF8 characters within the backup database. I guess I need my backup files to be made compatible with the latest version of wordpress and php.
