WordPress Web Designer Wanted: Interactive Murder Mystery Book Promotion Site
I'm seeking an exceptionally creative and skilled WordPress web designer to build a unique and highly engaging promotional website for my new book, "Breathtaker." This isn't just a standard book site; it needs to be an immersive, interactive murder mystery experience where readers can solve clues to unlock free copies of the book and exclusive discounts.
The site must embody a dark, moody, and mysterious aesthetic throughout, perfectly complementing the book's themes and drawing visitors deep into an unfolding digital "cold case file."
Project Goal: To create a custom WordPress website that hosts a multi-stage murder mystery game. The site will blend captivating design with interactive elements and conditional content display, guiding users through a series of clues that ultimately lead to rewards.
Key Requirements & Deliverables:
1. Overall Design & Aesthetic:
* Custom WordPress Design: Develop a bespoke WordPress theme or heavily customize a premium theme to perfectly match the dark, enigmatic, and elegant mood.
* Color Palette: Dominate with deep charcoals, rich blacks, and very dark blues (#1a1a1a, #0a0a0a, #0f172a). Use subtle accents of muted crimson, deep forest green, or tarnished gold (#8B0000, #4a5759, #C0C0C0) for highlights and interactive elements.
* Typography: Select strong, thematic fonts for headlines (e.g., stylized serif/sans-serif like Cinzel Decorative, Lora) and highly readable body text (e.g., Merriweather, Roboto Slab) on dark backgrounds.
* Imagery & Atmosphere:
* Utilize high-resolution, atmospheric background images or subtle video loops (e.g., swirling mist, dimly lit corridors, rain-streaked windows, old manuscript pages).
* Prominently display the "Breathtaker" book cover, potentially with a subtle glow or mysterious overlay.
* Incorporate subtle design elements like faded textures, distress filters, abstract shadows, or minimalistic crime-scene iconography.
* Subtle Animations: Implement tasteful, slow, and smooth fade-ins, parallax scrolling, or gentle hover effects on interactive elements to enhance the mystique.
2. Interactive Murder Mystery Structure (The "Case of the Missing Manuscript"):
The website will guide users through a linear mystery with distinct "pages" or sections, each hiding clues. Access to subsequent stages is conditional on solving the previous clue(s).
Core Clue Management System:
* A robust, custom-coded system (likely using WordPress custom post types/fields and custom plugins/PHP) to:
* Store and validate clue answers.
* Manage user progression through the mystery.
* Track the total number of successful solvers.
* Conditionally display different rewards based on the solver count.
* Store a limited number of unique final codes for verification (if applicable).
Page 1: Homepage - The Initial Hook
* Visuals: Full-screen, captivating background image/video.
* Content: Book title, author, an enigmatic tagline, and a prominent "BEGIN INVESTIGATION" button.
* Clue #1 (Hidden): A very faint, almost transparent number or a unique symbol subtly integrated into the background imagery, revealed via subtle hover effect or minimal opacity difference. This value unlocks Page 2.
Page 2: The Briefing Room (Setting the Scene & First Core Clues)
* Access: Requires correct input of Clue #1's value in a discreet field. Incorrect entry redirects to homepage or shows an error.
* Visuals: Designed like an old, digitized police briefing board with scattered notes, blurred photos.
* Content: Introduction to "Dr. Aris Thorne" and "The Missing Ciphered Codex."
* Clue #2 (Textual): A seemingly innocuous sentence in a "police report" snippet containing keywords that act as clues (e.g., "whisper of wind," "elderflower," "03:07 AM").
* Clue #3 (Visual/Interactive): A blurry "map fragment" image. Upon click, it subtly sharpens to reveal a unique symbol (e.g., \Psi) or letter clearly visible within the detail.
Page 3: The Archive (Deeper Dive & Environmental Clues)
* Access: Requires a simple "password" based on solving a riddle or combining specific details from Clues #2 & #3.
* Visuals: Looks like a cluttered digital archive or dusty study.
* Content: "Dr. Thorne's Notes" (stylized, slightly illegible text).
* Clue #4 (Audio/Hidden Link): A specific, non-obvious word within Thorne's notes is a subtly clickable link. Clicking it plays a very short, atmospheric audio clip (e.g., a ticking clock, a whispered word, a deep breath sound).
* Clue #5 (Image Detail): A zoomed-in image of a book spine on a shelf, with a unique symbol (e.g., \Omega) or letter prominently displayed as an embellishment.
* Clue #6 (Riddle/Puzzle): A short, cryptic poem or riddle embedded in a "journal entry." The answer is a single word, which is the key to unlock Page 4.
Page 4: The Interrogation Room (Logic & Combination Clues)
* Access: Unlocked by correctly inputting the word derived from Clue #6.
* Visuals: Sparse, stark, a single table and chair, an ominous file folder.
* Content: A disjointed "Interrogation Transcript Excerpt."
* Clue #7 (Word Association/Combination): A question within the transcript prompts combining specific elements/keywords from previous clues (e.g., combining initial letters of objects associated with numbers from Clue #2). The designer will need to implement the logic for this.
* Clue #8 (Cipher Fragment): A sequence of letters and symbols from previous clues (e.g., 3X-Psi-7K-Omega). Users must arrange them into a final code based on a subtle hint on this page.
Page 5: The Cipher Chamber (Final Lock)
* URL: A dedicated URL, accessible only when directed from the previous stage.
* Content: A single input field for the final combined code (from Clue #7 & #8) and a "Decrypt" button.
* Backend Validation: On submission, the backend must validate the code.
Page 6: The Unlocked Codex (Reward Page)
* URL: Accessible only upon successful final code submission. Direct URL access must be blocked.
* Visuals: A triumphant, bright reveal, prominently featuring the "Breathtaker" book cover.
* Dynamic Content: Content on this page will change based on the number of successful solvers.
* Backend Counter: A secure backend counter (in WordPress database) to track unique successful solvers.
* Reward Display Logic:
* If < 5 total solvers: "Congratulations! You are among the first 5 to crack the case. A signed physical copy of 'Breathtaker' is yours! (Instructions to claim via email will be provided by me)."
* If >= 5 and < 10 total solvers: "Excellent work! You are one of the next 5 to solve the mystery. A free digital e-book copy of 'Breathtaker' is your reward! (Instructions to claim via email will be provided by me)."
* If >= 10 total solvers: "Outstanding effort! While all our free copies have been claimed, your dedication is rewarded. Enjoy 25% off your purchase of 'Breathtaker' using code: MYSTERY25."
* Call to Action: Clear links to purchase "Breathtaker" from major retailers.
* Social Sharing: Subtle "Share your triumph!" buttons (without revealing the solution).
3. Technical & Performance:
* Robust WordPress Development: Clean, well-structured, and efficient WordPress code (custom theme/plugin development for the mystery logic).
* Responsive Design: Fully optimized for all devices (desktop, tablet, mobile).
* Performance Optimization: Fast loading times for all pages, including optimized images and code.
* Security: Implement standard WordPress security best practices.
* SEO Friendly: Basic SEO structure for discoverability.
* User-Friendly Backend: Provide an intuitive WordPress admin area for me to manage content (excluding the core mystery logic).
What I'm Looking For:
* Proven experience in developing complex, interactive WordPress websites.
* A strong portfolio showcasing not just visual design, but also custom functionality, conditional content, and an understanding of gamification elements.
* Ability to create a truly dark, moody, and mysterious aesthetic that evokes intrigue.
* Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail for the mystery mechanics.
* Clear and consistent communication throughout the project.
Please include in your proposal:
* Examples from your portfolio that best demonstrate your ability to create custom interactive experiences and dark/mysterious designs within WordPress.
* Your proposed technical approach for building the mystery logic (e.g., custom plugin, specific theme features).
* Your estimated timeline and cost for this project.
* Any questions you have regarding the mystery elements or desired functionality.
I'm excited to partner with a designer who can bring this unique "Breathtaker" promotional experience to life!
