Fix post search in WP-Admin

I have a wordpress website that uses a directory theme. I have 2 tasks.
1) The search function is not working in wp-admin to search listings. It used to work but no longer works.
2) I need to be able to search by categories. I need a dropdown added on the listing search page at the top to enable admin to search which category they want to search within.
