Create Word Press Drop Down Make / Model / Model Variant

creating new site as replacement to current car parts web site veedubmachine.co.uk with Wordpress/woocommerce/elementor pro but having problems with Drop Downs. Need drop downs for Make / Model / Model Variant then product type.
Problem is that despite parent child relationships being set. Selecting any make EG Volkswagen does not constrain the list on the next drop down to just Volkswagen models or the next drop down Model Variant to just model variants of the model selected. Looking for someone with good database and search set up skills with awareness of car models and brands to sort this problem. Data has been imported from the current magenta site where the drop downs were all categories. I want make model and model variant to be categories and product type to be tags or attributes.
