Database Solution Into Word Formatting/Template

We are looking for a solution to help manage a word document with a lot of data that is currently done manually.
It would be a lot easier to have this information in excel or another program (even a custom one) and be able to output into a word template quickly.
Essentially the word document follows a specific format of data and lists, and it would be a lot easier to update it somewhere else and output a new one.
We'd be open to access, excel, or custom solutions (.net software).
