Convert a large word document into publisher

I have a large word document that is a 'Benefit Guide' used for our client. It is very difficult to make changes in microsoft word and believe I will have better ability to make changes (without making any distortions) in publisher. I have been unsuccessful in converting, but hoping something more proficient can help. Ideally, I would like graphics that are included in the word document to be editable.
