Find Army records
Budget: $30 – $250 USD
I am looking for information on the 82nd Airborne’s involvement in the Domican Republic 1965-66. Specifically about a bomb which was set-off in my unit (1/504} by opposing force in mid 1966.
Soon after this incident, a soldier, Gene Barbosa (sp), shot and killed a teenager he thought was planting another bond in the hospital we were occupying. In a subsequent Court Marshal, he was found guilty of murder and was sentenced to 20 years in the Army Disciplinary prison in Leavenworth, KS. He was later exonerated and the record wiped. I think the Governor of Rhode Island, where Barbosa was from, was involved in the effort.
I am having trouble verifying these incidents. About 5 years ago I was able to find some of this info on the internet.
