# WooCommerce Category Restructuring & Taxonomy Migration for Solar Energy E-commerce Stores

## Project Overview

We are looking for an experienced WordPress/WooCommerce developer to restructure and optimize the product category architecture of our solar energy e-commerce business.

The project will be completed first on a backup/staging website. Once the new category structure has been tested and approved, it will be deployed to 4 live WooCommerce websites.

Two of the websites use the same theme, while the other two use a different theme. The developer must ensure that the category structure, product assignments, attributes, and brands are imported and function correctly across both theme environments.

The current WooCommerce installation contains approximately 403 product categories that have accumulated over many years. The existing structure contains:

* Duplicate categories
* Similar or overlapping categories
* Excessive hierarchy depth
* Manufacturer names used as categories
* Technical specifications incorrectly used as categories
* Categories that should be attributes instead

The goal is to create a clean, scalable, and easy-to-manage category structure that improves navigation and simplifies product management.

## Scope of Work

### Phase 1 – Category Audit

Review the existing WooCommerce category structure and identify:

* Duplicate categories
* Similar categories that should be merged
* Categories that should be removed
* Categories that should become attributes
* Categories that should become brands
* Categories that require manual review

### Phase 2 – Taxonomy Restructuring

Create and implement a new category hierarchy with a maximum depth of:

Parent Category
→ Child Category
→ Grandchild Category

No category should exceed 3 levels.

### Phase 3 – Convert Categories into Attributes

Convert technical specifications currently used as categories into WooCommerce Product Attributes.

#### Battery Capacity

* 100Ah
* 200Ah
* 300Ah

Products must be assigned correctly to the new attributes.

### Phase 4 – Create Brand Taxonomy

Move manufacturer-based categories into a dedicated Brand taxonomy.

Examples:

* Fronius
* Trina Solar
* Canadian Solar
* SunPower
* Solaredge

Products must be assigned correctly to their respective brands.

### Phase 5 – Product Reassignment & Migration

The developer will:

* Reassign products to the new categories
* Reassign products to the new attributes
* Reassign products to brands
* Remove obsolete categories
* Verify that no products are left uncategorized
* Test the new structure on the staging site

After approval, deploy the final structure to all 4 live websites.
