Freelance Performance Specialist WordPress/WooCommerce (Mobile PageSpeed Optimization)
Budget: $10 – $350 CAD
Project overview ( STANDARD ANSWERS WILL NOT CONSIDER )
We run a live WooCommerce fashion store (deputamadreshop.com) and need an experienced performance specialist to significantly improve and stabilize mobile PageSpeed/Lighthouse scores, without breaking tracking, UX or checkout. The work must be robust and long‑term, not a temporary tweak.
Main goals
Improve mobile performance and Core Web Vitals (especially LCP and main‑thread work) on:
Homepage
Category / listing pages
Product pages
Cart and checkout (without harming functionality).
Reduce JavaScript execution time (currently ~2.1 s) and main‑thread work (~4.2 s) on mobile audits.
Reduce the impact of third‑party scripts and heavy plugins while keeping all essential tracking and marketing in place.
Current stack & tools
We are already using:
WordPress + WooCommerce
Perfmatters for frontend optimization
Varnish for full‑page cache at server level
Cloudflare as CDN/proxy.
You must be able to work with this stack, not against it.
Key tasks
1. Audit & planning
Perform a detailed audit based on the existing PageSpeed Insights / Lighthouse mobile reports for our live pages.
Identify bottlenecks in JavaScript, CSS, layout shift and third‑party scripts, and propose a clear action plan with realistic KPIs (LCP, INP/TBT, main‑thread work, score ranges).
2. JavaScript & CSS optimization
Optimize and, where possible, split or limit heavy JS bundles from the theme and plugins (jQuery, minified bundles, React components, Complianz, Easy Sale Badges, WPForms, etc.).
Configure defer and delay for non‑critical JS using Perfmatters (and/or other tools), with special focus on:
Google Tag Manager / gtag tags
Facebook Pixel(s)
Clarity
PushEngage and other 3rd‑party marketing/utility scripts.
Use Perfmatters Script Manager to disable unused scripts/styles on pages where they are not needed.
3. Tracking cleanup (Google & Meta)
Safely clean up unused tracking, without breaking any active campaigns or analytics.
This includes:
Identifying and removing old / unused Meta (Facebook) Pixels that are no longer needed.
Identifying and removing or disabling unused Google Tag Manager tags (old experiments, deactivated tools, test tags, etc.).
Making sure that all remaining Google and Meta tags are correctly firing and still tracking conversions, remarketing and analytics as expected.
All changes must be done with:
Clear backup / export of the current GTM container and Meta Pixel settings.
Step‑by‑step testing (test containers, debug mode, test events) so that no interruption occurs in active Google or Meta tracking.
4. Core Web Vitals improvement
Optimize above‑the‑fold content: images, fonts, hero, first product blocks, lazy loading and preloading where appropriate.
Reduce layout shifts caused by cookie banner, badges, fonts, or other dynamic elements.
Aim for stable improvements in:
LCP on mobile
INP/TBT and main‑thread work
CLS.
5. Varnish & Cloudflare integration
Ensure all performance optimizations are compatible with Varnish full‑page cache:
Cache: home, categories, products.
No cache: cart, checkout, account pages, WooCommerce AJAX endpoints.
Check cache headers (HIT/MISS, Age) and, if necessary, suggest adjustments to the Varnish VCL to avoid issues such as empty carts or broken sessions.
Review Cloudflare configuration for WooCommerce:
Proper Cache Rules / Page Rules (no caching of dynamic pages).
Optimal use of CDN for static assets only.
Alignment of minification and other optimizations so they do not conflict with Perfmatters or Varnish.
6. Testing & documentation
Work on staging first whenever possible and only deploy to production after testing.
Run repeated mobile audits (PageSpeed/Lighthouse) for key pages and provide before/after screenshots and metrics.
Document all changes (Perfmatters settings, GTM adjustments, Varnish/Cloudflare tweaks, code snippets) so we can maintain the setup.
Requirements
Proven experience optimizing WordPress + WooCommerce stores, preferably in fashion/e‑commerce niches.
Strong knowledge of:
PageSpeed Insights, Lighthouse, Chrome DevTools (Network and Performance).
Core Web Vitals and modern performance best practices.
Perfmatters (JS delay/defer, Script Manager, preloading, media optimization).
Caching layers (server‑side Varnish, plugin‑level, CDN) and their interaction, especially with WooCommerce.
Google Tag Manager, gtag, Facebook Pixel and common marketing/analytics stacks.
Ability to work safely on a live store with minimal risk and clear rollback procedures.
Project conditions & milestones
This is a live WooCommerce store:
The site must never be taken offline.
Checkout, payments and user sessions must always remain fully functional.
You must work with proper staging / safe‑deployment. No experiments directly on production that can break the store.
The optimization must be stable and long‑term, not a short‑lived trick:
We do not accept solutions that work for a few days and then fail when traffic, content or campaigns change.
Milestone payment policy:
The main milestone will only be released after at least 4 weeks of real‑world use on the live store.
During these 4 weeks we will verify that:
Mobile PageSpeed/Lighthouse scores for key pages remain consistently improved.
Core Web Vitals do not regress.
No new issues appear on cart, checkout, account or tracking.
You must be available for minor follow‑up fixes during this 4‑week validation window if needed (included in the agreed budget).
How to apply
Please include:
2–3 links to WooCommerce or high‑traffic WordPress sites where you improved mobile PageSpeed/Core Web Vitals, with before/after screenshots or numbers if possible.
A short outline of how you would approach this project (in 5–7 bullet points).
Your estimated timeframe to reach stable results and your proposed budget for the full job (including the 4‑week validation period).
