Mass transport simulation project
Budget: $30 – $250 USD
The project is due Wednesday at 11:59 pm CST.
The Absorption part is based on how changing different variables affect absorption.
Your tasks include:
• Identify all variables in terms of the variables.
o For example, are these values on a solute-free basis?
o What components are the vapor and liquid compositions in terms of?
o It is recommended you create a graphic of an absorber with the proper
labels and include it in your report
• Determine the effects of:
o Solvent flow rate
o Inlet liquid mole fraction
o And one other variable of your choice
The Distillation part is based on how changing different variables affect the distillation.
Your tasks include:
• Identify all variables in terms of the variables.
o It is recommended you create a graphic of a distillation column with the
proper labels and include them in your report
• Determine the effects of changing each of the three variables has on:
o the number of stages in the distillation column
o how changing the reflux ratio affects the slopes of the operating lines in the
McCabe-Thiele diagram
