Technical Migration Process
Initiate a Studio Branch: In the classic Wix dashboard, use the "Site Actions" menu to select Create a version on Studio. This duplicates the site's backend into a new workspace.
Automatic Backend Transfer: All backend infrastructure—including databases, CMS collections, store inventory, contacts, and installed apps—is automatically migrated to the new Studio branch.
Manual Front-End Rebuild: The existing visual design and page layouts do not transfer. Because Wix Studio uses a completely different CSS-grid framework for responsive design, the front-end must be rebuilt manually from scratch within the new Studio Editor.
Zero-Downtime Development: The original classic Wix site remains live and fully operational while the new front-end is being built in the background.
Publishing & Cutover: Once the new design is finalized, publishing the Studio branch permanently overrides the classic site. At this point, the site must be upgraded to a dedicated Wix Studio premium plan.
