WINDOWS VIDEO PLAYER TIME INDICATOR DISAPPEARS

I am playing a very long video and want to stop it and continue later where I left off. I need to know the number of minutes/seconds that have elapsed. The time line disappears and does not reappear, regardless of where I put the mouse pointer or what characters I type on the keyboard. How can I get it back to see what the time elapsed is?
