Virtual machine to increase memory RAM

Initial data:
There is Virtual Machine (VM) working on local server with only Punching Attendance tracking software + MS SQL Express server on it to process & store attendance data.
Issue: 1-3 times per month the VM is hanging (black screen, i.e. not coming out from Sleep mode, even Ctrl+Alt+Del is not working). On VMWare It is showing full memory out of 4GB is consumed as last data.
In reliability report it is showing that Malware Scanner stopped to work, as well as SQL.
Before this attendance software + SQL Express was working well without hanging, also with 4GB RAM.
Task: 1) To add +2 GB RAM to this Virtual machine from server available 16GB (VMWare), i.e. to make 6 GB RAM instead of current 4GB RAM; 2) To find the most probable root cause & rectify it.
