IT System Administrator Tasks and Skillset
Tasks / Responsibilities
• Physically relocate racks, servers, and network equipment to the new office location, including proper shutdown, handling, and re connection of all systems.
• Reconnect power and network cabling according to the defined switch port and VLAN plan, ensuring servers are placed in the correct subnets.
• Start and verify all license manager services for GHS, DOORS, Tessy, Reqtify, and Polyspace on the relocated servers.
• Confirm that all required license ports are listening and reachable from internal client machines, performing basic connectivity tests (ping and port checks).
• Execute functional tests from representative engineering PCs to ensure all tools (GHS, DOORS, Tessy, Reqtify, Polyspace) can successfully obtain licenses.
• Start and validate the OpenVPN server service at the new location, including configuration checks for routing/bridging to the internal network.
• Verify and, if needed, adjust firewall and NAT rules to allow inbound OpenVPN connections and proper routing to the license servers.
• Perform remote access tests from at least one external client to confirm OpenVPN connectivity, IP assignment, and successful license checkout over VPN.
• Ensure that the AnywhereUSB hub and AnywhereUSB Manager service are running correctly, with all license dongles attached, and verify that dongle based licenses are accessible from the relevant license server(s) over the network.
• Document all changes in server locations, IP addresses, DNS entries, and firewall/OpenVPN configurations, and provide a brief relocation/validation report.

Necessary Skillset
• Strong experience administering Windows Server and/or Linux systems (service management, log analysis, basic OS troubleshooting).
• Hands on experience with server hardware, racks, and data center environments, including safe shutdown, transport, and cabling practices.
• Solid knowledge of TCP/IP networking, VLANs, routing, firewalls, and DNS; able to re establish and troubleshoot connectivity after a physical relocation.
• Practical experience administering OpenVPN, including server configuration, certificate and key management, routing/bridging, firewall/NAT integration, and client troubleshooting.
• Experience operating and troubleshooting software license servers (Flex style or vendor license managers), including port checks and client license validation.
• Proficiency with diagnostic tools such as ping, tracert/traceroute, nslookup/dig, and netstat/ss for network and service debugging.
• Understanding of basic security and access control concepts (OpenVPN access, firewall rules, secure handling of certificates and license files).
