Configure Dell Rack Server (Dell EMC PowerEdge R540 rack server)
Budget: ₹1,500 – ₹12,500 INR
I have a Dell rack-mount server (Dell EMC PowerEdge R540) that already runs Ubuntu, and I’m ready to convert it into a dual-purpose box for my custom-built web applications. I need Windows Server 2019 or above to be installed alongside the existing Ubuntu installation, with the lion’s share of disk capacity devoted to Windows and a smaller XFS-formatted slice left for Linux. Everything has to be partitioned manually, so you’ll need to be comfortable working in the RAID controller, the Dell lifecycle controller/iDRAC tools, and the Windows installer’s advanced options.
Once the disks are laid out correctly I want both operating systems fully bootable, networked, and ready to serve web traffic. The Linux side must remain intact with XFS as its file system; the Windows side needs to be prepared for IIS (I will handle the application deploys later). Please also enable basic file-sharing between the two OSs so assets can move easily back and forth.
Deliverables
• Clean manual partition scheme reflecting the above size split
• Successful installation and first-boot of Windows Server 2019 alongside Ubuntu
• Verification that each OS boots independently via GRUB or comparable loader
• Simple shared storage path visible from both systems
