Choosing the right school is one of the most important decisions you have to make as a parent and it is, therefore, important that the school you choose reflects the values and ideals that you wish to see developed in your child.
Recognised as one of the ‘Best International Schools in Bangalore’ and situated on a beautiful, 35-acre site on the Whitefield Sarjapura Road, the campus boasts state-of-the-art facilities with buildings that have been constructed with environmental considerations in mind. The result is that UWA is one of only a very few schools in India to be EDGE certified (Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies) and this reflects our commitment to educating our students, amongst other things, in environmental responsibility.
Curriculum:
Our Early Years Programme is based on the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) of the English National Curriculum which we believe to be the best framework for preschool learning.
The school also follows a curriculum framed around the English National Curriculum for students in the Primary years, Grades 1 to 5.
In Grades 6 to 8 we again use the English National Curriculum as the scaffold upon which to frame our teaching and learning, but we also introduce a number of bespoke elements which we have developed ourselves and which focus on local, national and global environmental issues, together with Citizenship and Green Science.
We plan to offer Cambridge IGCSE for students in Grades 9 and 10, which is the world’s most popular international qualification for 14 to 16 year olds. Not only is it truly international; it gives students more options than any other international qualification, with more subjects to choose from, varied methods of instruction and as a result, more ways to succeed.
We also intend to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme to students in Grades 11 and 12, to provide an internationally recognized qualification for entry into Universities and Colleges, both within India and around the world. The IBDP is a rigorous academic programme where the students choose a subject from each of 6 subject areas, studying 3 subjects at Higher Level and 3 at Standard Level. It is widely recognised as the ‘Gold Standard’ international qualification for university.
English National Curriculum: The ENC sets out what pupils should be taught, with the aim of ensuring each pupil is given the same standard of education. It defines the subjects taught, the knowledge, skills and understanding required in each subject, the level of ability pupils are expected to achieve in each subject and the way pupil progress is assessed and reported. Within this structure, schools are free to plan and organise teaching and learning in the way that best meets the needs of their pupils. In particular, this allows us to mould the subject matter to reflect the Indian context in which we live and learn.
Setting suitable challenges: Teachers set high expectations for every pupil and differentiate accordingly. They plan and set appropriate work for pupils whose attainment is significantly above the average and similarly, they have the same obligation to plan lessons for pupils who find the attainment targets challenging. Teachers use appropriate assessment to set goals which are deliberately aspirational.
Responding to pupils’ needs and overcoming potential barriers: Teachers are aware of the need to be inclusive with regard to race, different ability, gender, religion or belief. A number of students exhibit specific educational needs and lessons are planned to ensure that there are no barriers to learning. Our maximum class size of 24 students gives room for individualized attention and keeps pace with differentiated learning, depending on the need.
