Learn more about version control

I want to learn more about version control. I was looking for someone to answer my question about version control. I was trying to reverse old commits and didn't want to hurt the other commits. I saw this question on stackoverflow and that is exactly what I was looking for, but no one answer to it. Is there anyone who knows the answer?
