Audio Queue Companion App Development

Job ID: 39618186

Budget: $10 – $30,000 USD

Project Overview
Seeking an experienced Full-Stack Developer to build a Real-time Audio Queue Companion App. This app will enable live streaming interactions by allowing audience members to join a queue for real-time audio conversations with the streamer. It requires a modern web app (streamer & audience), a scalable backend, and a dedicated browser extension for seamless integration with platforms like YouTube Live. Expertise in WebRTC and browser extension development is critical.

Key Features:
User Management & Auth: Secure login/registration for "Streamer" and "Audience."

Audience Queue Management (Web App & Backend): Users join/leave queue, see real-time position updates (WebSockets), persistent queue state.

Streamer Dashboard (Web App): Real-time queue display, "Promote to Speaker," "End Speaker's Turn," "Remove," "Ban," "Unban" users. Notifications for queue events.

Real-time Audio Communication (WebRTC): Direct, low-latency, peer-to-peer audio between Streamer and "Current Speaker." Robust handling of network conditions (NAT traversal, firewalls). WebRTC signaling server implementation.

Browser Extension (Chrome focus, cross-browser a plus): Discreet overlay on streaming pages (e.g., YouTube), "Join Queue" button, real-time status display (e.g., "You are #X in line"), WebRTC audio connection facilitation, secure extension-to-backend communication.

Technical Stack:
Frontend: React.js (preference; open to justified alternatives).

Backend: Node.js (with Express.js).

Real-time: WebSockets (updates, signaling) & WebRTC (direct audio).

Database: MongoDB Atlas (Mongoose desirable).

Deployment: Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Heroku, DigitalOcean).

Browser Extension: In-depth knowledge of Chrome Extension APIs (Manifest V3), content/background scripts, secure communication.

Version Control: Git.

Code Quality: Clean, scalable, maintainable, secure code.

Important Note for Less Experienced Developers:
This project is highly complex. If you're a mid-level or less experienced developer, assess your comfort with these significant challenges:

WebRTC Complexity: Deep understanding of networking (STUN/TURN, ICE, NAT traversal) is crucial. Debugging asynchronous, browser-specific WebRTC connections is very difficult. Inexperience here leads to unstable connections or significant delays.

Browser Extension Specifics: Mastering Manifest V3, isolated execution environments, and secure, reliable DOM interaction with external sites (like YouTube) requires nuanced expertise.

Real-time Full-Stack Integration: Orchestrating seamless, scalable, real-time communication across backend, frontend, WebSockets, WebRTC, and the extension, while handling edge cases and ensuring robust error handling, is a major architectural challenge.

Independent Problem Solving: As the client, I cannot provide technical mentorship. You'll need to independently research, problem-solve, and implement solutions for complex issues. Proactive problem identification is expected.

We're open to talented developers eager to learn, but you must have a realistic understanding of these technical hurdles and the autonomy required.

What We're Looking For:
Proven Expertise: Portfolio highlighting full-stack projects, especially WebRTC and browser extensions. Demonstrate how you tackled complex integration problems.

Problem Solver: Ability to independently diagnose and solve technical challenges.

Strong Communication: Excellent English skills for effective collaboration.

Reliability & Professionalism: Consistent availability, adherence to deadlines.

Security Minded: Understanding of web app/real-time system security.

Project Deliverables:
Fully functional & tested Backend Server.

Fully functional & tested React Frontend (Streamer Dashboard & Audience Web App).

Fully functional & tested Google Chrome Browser Extension.

Comprehensive deployment instructions.

Well-documented, clean source code (Git).

(Optional but preferred): Basic usage guide/handover.
