Website help

I had an old single page, basic and free website set up years ago using Google Labs. The site became obsolete although I still own the domain. I’d like to bring it back to life, but it’s now been converted to some strange URL with Google Sites in it. Have some basic skills, but need help understanding how to start fresh using original domain name and building a fresh (and free) landing page website.
