DECLARATION OF INTEREST FOR SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT
Budget: €1,500 – €3,000 EUR
Dear Colleagues,
We are a small cold store in Greece, central Athens (www.alaskanet.gr), which is fully acting as a 3rd Party Logistics provider in cold chain (including transportation and forwarding services). In parallel we run a consulting and training company around the cold chain (www.cryologic.gr).Both companies are (same) family businesses. The current WMS for the cold stores is custom - made and is supposed to satisfy all legal and market requirements but it seems time to be renovated (or completely replaced) on various matters, as software environment, communication gates, invoicing etc.
Our thought is to construct a brand new total management system for small - medium 3PL cold stores - transportation companies. We use the term ''total management system'' and not ''warehouse management system'' because we wish under the umbrella of this development to include all main activities of a business as ours, like:
1. Warehouse management (receiving, importing, exporting, inventory control, FEFO,
HACCP procedures etc).
2. Transportation and Forwarding management system.
3. Open access to customers.
4. 3PL and Forwarding invoicing.
5. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
6. Exchange of data with the accounting system for costing purposes and profitability
studies and valuations.
7. Labor management system (forecasting on a 24 hour basis of logistics labor as well as
maintenance and hygiene works according to available labor force.
8. Periodic costing and profitability valuation of offered main services (grossly storage,
labor, packaging, quality control, distribution and forwarding) as 5 above - estimation of
break even unit revenues by service.
9. Periodic valuation by customer.
10. Recording and root cause analysis of failures.
11. Management Information System (MIS) on daily, monthly, quarterly and yearly basis.
Concerning hardware equipment, we predict all personnel to have their own tablets, capable to operate in cold environment and scan identification labels. We refer here that current practice is to construct our own labels on every pallet or (if picking project) box upon receiving. Tablets will exchange data with main system, which is hosted on a cloud server as explained in next paragraph. Communications are based on a powerful WiFi system which already exists.
All procedures described above are documented and are accompanied with detailed flowcharts and templates by activity. All these will be at your disposal provided that copyright is registered.
The purpose of this development is dual: (a) as a commercial product (for our consulting company) for similar cold store - transportation - forwardind businesses and (b) for use by our own cold stores (as a client). From the above, two things become obvious: (a) the server must be virtual (cloud) and (b) the software must be open - flexible to be adapted to the needs of every client.
