WordPress Media Upload Fix
Budget: $30 – $250 AUD
My WordPress installation refuses to save anything to the media library and always throws the “Unable to make directory… is its parent directory writable by the server?” message. It happens with every file type—images, video, PDFs, you name it—so the problem is clearly global rather than file-specific.
What I have already tried
• Reset folder permissions throughout wp-content and uploads (755/644 and even 777 for testing).
• Reinstalled WordPress core, all plugins, and the active theme.
• Switched themes and disabled every plugin to rule out conflicts.
• Pointed the upload path to a brand-new custom directory created manually (same result).
• Verified PHP version, memory limits, and file-upload settings; everything looks fine.
Acceptance criteria
1. Uploading any standard media type through the WordPress dashboard completes successfully with no error.
2. New year- and month-based subfolders are created automatically inside /wp-content/uploads (or whichever path you configure).
3. The fix survives a cache flush, plugin re-activation, and a core update.
4. A short summary of what you changed—permissions, wp-config, .htaccess, ownership, SELinux rules, etc.—so I can document it for future reference.
I can provide Wordpress amd cPanel access.
Please help me nail down whatever is blocking WordPress from writing to disk so I can get back to adding content.
