I want to build a professional and secure real-time truck tracking system (web-based platform) for logistics and fleet management. The goal is to track the live location of trucks on the map every few seconds and display that data in an admin dashboard with features like trip history, route planning, fuel/toll estimates, and alerts.
What the system should do (Key Features):
Live Location Tracking
– GPS device (OBD/phone/MQTT broker) sends coordinates every 5–10 seconds
– Map should update in real-time (without refreshing) using WebSocket
Trip Replay Feature
– Admin can view past routes with play/pause timeline
– Show stops, speeds, and duration of trip
Geo-fencing & Alerts
– Define zones (city, state, warehouse)
– Alert when a truck enters or exits a boundary
Route Planning & ETA Calculation
– Predict best route using OSRM or Google routing API
– Show estimated time, tolls, fuel cost, and distance
Admin Panel/Dashboard
– View/manage trucks, drivers, trip reports
– Role-based login (admin, fleet owner, driver)
Pricing Engine
– Estimate toll, fuel, and permit cost dynamically based on vehicle type and location
Technical Requirements (Preferred Stack):
Frontend: React.js, Tailwind CSS, MapLibreGL / Leaflet for maps
Backend: NestJS or Node.js + Express.js, WebSocket, MQTT, Kafka
Database: PostgreSQL + PostGIS (spatial), Redis (cache), MongoDB (optional)
APIs: RESTful APIs, WebSocket APIs, Pricing & Routing APIs
Mapping: Vector tiles (TileServerGL, Tippecanoe), OSRM for routing
Security: OAuth2, JWT, HTTPS/TLS encryption
DevOps: Docker, GitHub Actions, PM2, NGINX (for hosting)
Data Flow & Architecture :

Kafka processes → Data cleaner saves to PostGIS + Redis
