Digitizing Textile Dyeing Techniques -- 2
Budget: $8 – $15 USD
I need help preserving age-old textile dyeing methods and making them usable inside a modern, digital environment. My goal is to take the rich, hands-on know-how that artisans follow at the dye vat—temperature cues, natural pigment recipes, timing rituals—and turn it into an intuitive digital experience that anyone can access and experiment with.
The focus is squarely on dyeing techniques; weaving and finishing will come later. I’m open to whatever platform best suits the concept—web, mobile, or even a lightweight desktop tool—so feel free to suggest what you believe will deliver the most fluid, media-rich learning experience.
What I already have
• Field notes and video footage of master dyers at work
• Basic colour-fastness data and a small library of natural pigment formulas
What I need from you
• Structure this raw material into a clear digital workflow (think interactive recipe cards, step-by-step timers, pigment calculators)
• Design and build a functioning prototype that demonstrates at least one complete dye process from start to finish
• Provide source files, clean documentation, and a short screen-recorded walkthrough so I can iterate internally
Acceptance criteria
1. The prototype lets a user pick a dye recipe, adjust batch size, and receive calculated ingredient weights automatically.
2. Each step displays contextual media (photo, short clip, or illustration) drawn from my footage.
3. All formulas and conversions are editable in a single JSON or spreadsheet so non-coders can update content later.
4. Code is clearly commented and delivered via Git or a ZIP archive.
If this sounds like a project you’d enjoy, tell me which stack or framework you’d use and share one example of a learning tool or craft-focused app you built before.
