Custom Tool Tracking App

Our entire tool inventory is still sitting in an Excel sheet. I need that data migrated into a custom-built web application so every staff member can sign tools in or out from any device and instantly see where each item is located. Excel has served its purpose; the new app should deliver real-time visibility, searchable history, and effortless growth as we buy more gear.

Core functionality
• Role-based access is essential. Admins will control settings and data, Managers will supervise activity, and Employees will simply log tools in or out.
• Each record must store at least the Tool ID and current Tool Condition, with the flexibility to add further fields later.
• Users pick a location, scan or select the tool, choose IN or OUT, and the system timestamps the transaction.
• An “Add New Tool” flow lets Admins (and optionally Managers) create fresh entries on the spot without touching the database directly.
• A quick importer brings my existing Excel list into the system during setup.

Technical notes
I want this built from scratch—no WordPress, no Shopify—so the stack is open to your preference (Laravel, Django, Node, or similar) as long as it is secure, responsive, and easy for me to host. Please include authentication, basic reporting, and clear documentation that a non-developer can follow for routine maintenance.

Deliverables
1. Fully functional web app with the features above, deployed to a test server I can access.
2. Source code and a short deployment guide.
3. Brief walk-through or video showing the main user flows.

Once accepted, I’ll share the current spreadsheet and a sample of the locations list so we can kick off with real data.
