Set Up UDM WireGuard VPN
Budget: $30 – $250 USD
I need a remote-access VPN built around WireGuard so I can reach my on-site TrueNAS box from anywhere. The UniFi Dream Machine (UDM) is already running the latest firmware; I just haven’t been able to get WireGuard working on it.
Here’s what I’m looking for:
• Configure WireGuard on the UDM, including key generation, firewall rules, and routing so traffic reaches the LAN segment where TrueNAS lives.
• Provide clear, repeatable steps (screenshots or command lines) so I can re-apply the setup after future firmware updates.
• Validate the tunnel with me live: I’ll connect from an external network and confirm I can browse the TrueNAS interfaces and SMB shares.
• Deliver a brief troubleshooting checklist for common issues (port conflicts, MTU tweaks, peer-key rotation).
I’ll handle any changes needed on the TrueNAS side myself; you focus solely on the UDM. Remote access via SSH or a temporary UniFi controller invite can be arranged if that speeds things up, but a documented walkthrough is essential.
