Adtenatus' Odyssey - Audiobook - We need your voice to bring the book to life
Budget: €30 – €250 EUR
Dear voice over artists,
BEDSHEET CRAZY, one complete novel at 126,400 words and 462 pages that can be broken down in 5 parts. We need someone to read it, record it and upload it in order to sell it as an audiobook.
It’s a modern tale set in the Bronze Age that follows a blended family, the journey of Adtenatus the demi-man who had to give his wife Climaxpa an orgasm to save Velgan island from being torn apart by ever-growing minority groups. It’s the feat of a demi-man who had to become an artist to save the world.
The manuscript is a humorous, mainstream dystopian fiction that blends great adventures with political and food science, something I believe has never been endeavored before. It addresses gently contemporary themes such as men’s rights, feminism, social contract theories and the role of the extended family, thus enticing us to ponder what makes us humans and the ties that bind us together. Playfulness is at the core of the novel.
The book in a nutshell: unhappy, Climaxpa needs more art in her life and dreams of becoming consul. To make it happen, her two husbands, Adtenatus and Culino, have to win a trophy during the Florentes Games (spring games) competing against eight other husbands in a series of crazy Olympiads. The first game is called the Bedsheet Crazy game simply because ten demi-men have to go and fetch their wives’ dirty bedsheets, clean them and hang them.
As Velgan Island is entirely ruled by women married to several husbands, often two, men are only demi-men with no civil rights. All husbands are required to wear an animal hide and each of their outfits comes from an extinct animal. It is a constant demonstration that, just like those animals, men could go into oblivion with the lightest snap of a finger if they were not to behave as they are told. Adtenatus is a red fox, the last Sierra Nevada Velpes Necator. Culino is a brown bear, the last Ursus Horribilis Californicus. There are five pairs of husbands doing chores for five wives in the Bedsheet Crazy game held in a giant petal from a genetically-modified flower filled with sea water that is used as a stadium on the shore of Velgan Island.
As the game unfolds, soon spectators, as well as Adtenatus’ son Prodigy, can’t sit still. They want in to participate and steal the show. The demi-men quickly understand they have more to win by standing together and by making their voice heard thus inspiring everyone as they make statement after statement. Some folks take a liking for the best athletes in the arena; art, sports and a moral compass are manufactured at a collective level. Everyone is relishing the moment and rejoicing at the demi-men’s inventiveness, and the event becomes one big party with one, Rabirto, becoming the life of the party.
Will Climaxpa and the Velgans be eventually satisfied as demi-men are on their way to become men yet again?
I’m a tenured English teacher at L’Institut Agro Dijon (Higher National School of Agriculture, Food Science and Environmental Science) in Burgundy where I lead classes for first-, second-, and third- year engineering students. I hold a master’s degree in English literature from the University of Lyon 2, as well as an MBA from the Geneva Business School. On my way to becoming a full-time writer, I swim, travel as far as I can, or ski in my spare time. I’d define myself as an academic and entertainer. We can’t spend too much on this unfortunately as we already spent a lot trying to make every contributor happy. Thank you for your help. A top notch violonist can play as you speak on certain parts of the book if you want to.
I’m confident the book is going to make a big splash and together we will make it known to the world.
Thank you for your time and consideration, a song is also being recorded as we speak.
Best wishes,
Quentin DUGAND
