Tool for facilitating the use of cross-references in Word

I need a macro / vba code to help me with the use of cross-references in Microsoft Word. Ideally, I would only mark static text (e.g., "Schedule 1.4(a)" or "§ 1(1)") and the macro would turn it into a dynamic cross-reference (full context) to the heading with the same number and prefix. In case the text is ambiguous it would list the items in question.
