Build a Visual Studio interface for data capture

My project is to build a user interface for serial port data capture using Visual Studio. The data that will be captured includes basic voltage information as COMM port data strings. Language preference is open, and any language is acceptable for the project. We need to have a large window displaying the current serial input integer, while saving the serial port data to a log text file in real time.
