Illustrated Map Creation for Arroyo Seco (Pasadena, CA)

We are seeking a designer/illustrator to create a playful, easy-to-read illustrated map of the Arroyo Seco in Pasadena, California. This map will help visitors explore the area by highlighting hiking trails, nearby landmarks, and key destinations within the valley.

We currently have an older map created by the City of Pasadena, but it feels outdated and difficult to read. Our goal is to develop a fresh, visually engaging version that is more approachable and user-friendly while still accurately representing the area.

Map Style & Format:
• Illustrated, playful style
• Vertical layout
• 8.5 x 11 format
• The map does not need to be to scale, but trail locations should remain accurate relative to landmarks

The map should include:
• Hiking Trails
• Clear trail routes throughout the Arroyo Seco
• Trail entrances marked

Color-coded trails to show:
• Areas where restoration/work has been completed
• Trail grading (steep, flat, stairs, etc.)
• Difficulty level

Illustrated landmarks located in the Arroyo:
• Rose Bowl Stadium
• Brookside Golf Course
• Kidspace Children's Museum
• Rose Bowl Aquatics Center
• Nature Elements
• Minimal illustrations of local flora and fauna that can be found in the Arroyo Seco
• Accessibility
• Public transportation drop-off and pick-up locations in relation to the hiking trails

The final map will be used for:
