Route Proxmox VM via OPNsense

Job ID: 39960426

Budget: £20 – £21 GBP

I already have an OPNsense virtual machine running on my Proxmox host. I’m spinning up a new Linux VM and want all of its public-IP traffic to flow through that OPNsense instance.

What I need:
• Map the new VM’s public IP so that ingress and egress are handled by the existing OPNsense VM.
• Apply a simple, sensible set of firewall rules inside OPNsense to keep the Linux guest reachable while blocking unwanted ports.
• Document the handful of steps you take so I can repeat the process for future VMs.

Everything else—VPNs, load-balancing, advanced tuning—can stay untouched; I’m only after the basic routing path and firewall setup. If you’re comfortable with Proxmox networking bridges, OPNsense interfaces, and public-IP NAT, this should be a quick task.
