OpenNebula Engineer for Private/Hybrid Cloud Setup
Budget: ₹37,500 – ₹75,000 INR
Seeking an experienced OpenNebula engineer to design, deploy, and manage a production-grade private or hybrid cloud. The ideal freelancer will have hands-on expertise with OpenNebula, virtualization backends (e.g., KVM), storage integration (e.g., Ceph), networking, automation, and ongoing operational support.
Key Responsibilities:
Install, configure, and harden OpenNebula (including Sunstone, OneFlow/OneGate if applicable).
Integrate OpenNebula with underlying virtualization (KVM/Xen), storage (Ceph, NFS, LVM), and networking (bridges, VLANs).
Automate VM/template lifecycle, scaling, and image management.
Implement high availability, multi-tenancy, and access control (e.g., LDAP/SSO).
Monitor cloud health and performance; set up alerting.
Troubleshoot issues and perform upgrades/migrations.
Document architecture, runbooks, and provide knowledge transfer.
Required Skills:
Production experience with OpenNebula (installation, customization, troubleshooting).
Deep Linux administration (Ubuntu/CentOS/RHEL).
Virtualization: KVM (preferred), Xen.
Software-defined storage integration (Ceph strongly preferred).
Networking fundamentals: bridges, VLANs, security groups, IP management.
Scripting/automation (Bash, Python, or equivalent).
Familiarity with cloud template/orchestration (OpenNebula templates, OneFlow).
Security best practices for cloud infrastructure.
Nice-to-Have:
Experience integrating with LDAP/Active Directory.
Experience with federation, marketplace apps.
Monitoring stacks (Prometheus, Zabbix, ELK).
Backup/restore strategies for VMs.
API usage and customization.
Engagement:
Contract/Freelance. Specify availability (part-time/full-time), deliverables, and preferred billing model (hourly or milestone-based). Provide previous OpenNebula references or portfolio.
Sample Screening Questions:
Walk me through how you’d set up OpenNebula with Ceph backing storage for high availability.
How do you manage multi-tenant isolation in OpenNebula?
Describe how you’d automate VM provisioning using OpenNebula templates.
What steps would you take to debug a stuck VM deployment?
Deliverables (example):
Working OpenNebula deployment with configured storage/network.
Documentation (architecture diagram, install/config steps, operational runbooks).
Automation scripts/templates.
Handover session + knowledge transfer.
