Configure Two-Node Proxmox HA

Budget: $250 – $750 USD

I already have two Proxmox 7.x servers online and one virtual desktop running on the first node. What I now need is a rock-solid High Availability configuration so that this and any future VMs move automatically to the second node whenever the primary fails or is taken down for maintenance.

Current environment
• Two nodes, each with a single network interface (no bonded NICs or dedicated management LAN).
• One VM in production, used for test / dev desktop work.

Scope of work
– Join the second server to the cluster, configure Corosync, fencing / watchdog and enable HA for existing and future VMs.
– Optimise networking for a two-node, single-NIC design and advise if a lightweight second link or VLAN tweak is strongly recommended.
– Validate storage configuration (I’ll brief you on whether it’s local, NFS, or Ceph once we start) and make sure it is HA-compatible.
– Demonstrate live migration and an automatic fail-over/ fail-back test so I can see the desktops stay online when a node is powered off.
– Provide a short, clear run-book: how to add new VMs to HA, common recovery steps, and any commands I might need.

Acceptance criteria
1. Both nodes show ‘Quorum OK’ and are healthy.
2. Existing VM and a sample new VM are HA-enabled and migrate cleanly.
3. Intentional node shutdown triggers automatic restart of the VMs on the surviving node with minimal interruption.
4. Documentation delivered and a brief hand-over call completed.
