Matrix Synapse VPS Migration & LiveKit

I need to move our busy Matrix Synapse instance—currently hosted at elest.io—onto a fresh Ubuntu-based VPS that will be orchestrated with dokploy. The home-server carries well over 1 000 user accounts, so the move must be zero-data-loss and as close to zero downtime as we can reasonably get.

Scope of the work
• Perform a full export of every user account, room, message history, media repository and configuration file from the existing deployment.
• Restore that data on the new VPS, replicating all current settings so users keep logging in the same way and under the same domain.
• Reconfigure the service to run in non-federated mode.
• Integrate LiveKit to enable in-room video calls.
• Ensure both Element clients and synapse-admin function exactly as they do now.
• Produce concise documentation of each step, any commands run and any configuration changes introduced.
• Provide post-migration support for an agreed period to catch and correct unforeseen issues.

There are no custom plugins or exotic modules in use, so the migration should be relatively straightforward once data integrity and scale are handled. If you’ve migrated large Matrix installs before, are comfortable with Docker-style workflows in dokploy, and can configure LiveKit end-to-end, I’d love to hear how you plan to approach the cut-over and keep our community running smoothly.
