Investigative Video Reels Editor

Job ID: 40461218

Budget: $15 – $25 AUD

We're an independent journalism outlet looking for a skilled short-form editor to cut Instagram Reels from our long-form investigative videos. This is potentially ongoing work for the right person.

The source material is finished, long-form content — our most recent piece is a 54-minute investigation. We're not after a full re-edit of the main video; your job is to mine it for the strongest 30–60 second moments and package them as scroll-stopping vertical Reels.

What makes a clip work for us: a hook in the first 1–2 seconds, a clear stake or revelation, and tight pacing that holds attention to the end. This is serious, newsy content — think gripping and punchy, not comedic. We'll point you to the highest-potential moments to start, but we want an editor with the instinct to spot them independently as the relationship develops.

Deliverables (per source video):

Multiple vertical Reels (9:16), each a self-contained moment with a strong open and a clear payoff
Hard-coded captions/subtitles, styled for legibility and mobile viewing
Clean, fast cuts; b-roll or text overlays where they sharpen the point
Optimised for Instagram Reels (we may repurpose to other platforms later)
We'll provide the full video plus any branding assets, music, and lower-third specs. You bring a sharp eye for what goes viral, strong timing, and clean captioning.

When applying, please share examples of short-form clips you've cut — ideally from interviews, documentary, or news/commentary content rather than gaming or pure entertainment. Let us know your turnaround per batch and your rate (per clip or per view, whichever you prefer to quote).
